Qualities of likeness.

There was just something about him.

It wasn’t that he was devastatingly attractive—he wasn’t.

His nose was too large to be called noble; his features too harsh and angular to be handsome; his eyes too deep and cold to be soulful and his hair too short to be touchable.

But all together the physical features became entrancing, coaxing the eye to linger on the full lower lip, the sharp curve of the jaw or the slash of the cheek bone.

He would never be a pretty boy, never be called cute or sweet but that was all right. He was ruggedly sexy, broodingly seductive and that’s what Rose was falling for.

It wasn’t that he was captivatingly debonair and suave—he wasn’t.

His grin was too wide and manic to be smooth; his manner too abrupt to be pleasant; his wit too acerbic to be polite; his frame too gangly to be graceful and his insults too sharp to be witty.

But all together his embarrassed charm and goofy manner attracted. His boyish air and playful attitude ensnared and held attention whilst his air of vulnerability melted even the sternest of hearts.

He was no Captain Jack but that was all right.

He was awkward and exposed and that’s what Rose was falling for.

It wasn’t that he was some great humanitarian—he wasn’t.

He insulted at least three species a day; he basked in his own perceived superiority; he bemoaned the lack of a true intellectual equal; he denied any inadequacies and he knew, beyond a doubt, that he was right.

But all together he was a study in contradictions, saving planets even as he insulted them, almost dying for beings he thought of as inferior and needing the presence of one human girl to stabilise him.

He would never have proper social graces but that was all right.

He was inept but sincere, detached but devoted and that’s what Rose was falling for.

There was just something about him.

It wasn’t that he was girl’s dream man—he wasn’t.

He couldn’t understand her need to see her mother; he didn’t know why hair-care was so important; he disliked her need for sleep when it took her away from him; he didn’t know not to insult her fashion sense; he didn’t understand her need for privacy and refused point blank to take her shopping.

But he knew when she needed a shoulder to cry on or a hand to hold. He knew how to show her a good time and take her to heaven and back and he always, always made sure she was safe.

He would never be the perfect man but that was all right.

He was perfect for Rose and that’s what she was falling for.

>>

There was just something about her.

It was in the way she moved; in the way she talked; in the way she smiled; in the way she spoke to him.

It was in the way she held his eyes, in the way she held his hand; in the way she cupped his cheek.

It was in her soft hair; her full lips; her cheeky grin; her lush figure.

It was in her compassionate heart; her caring soul; her forgiving eyes and clever brain.

It was in the way she loved him; trusted him; needed him; cherished him.

It was everything about her and that’s what The Doctor had fallen for.
